School Supply Donations Benefit Hundreds of Local Kids

CARLYLE, ILLINOIS (August 23, 2018) — The 2018-2019 school year is just beginning, and school supplies are in high demand. That’s why employees from The Maschhoffs teamed up with local schools in Carlyle and Pittsfield, Illinois, to collect and donate supplies during the month of August so learning can start off with a bang.

“School supplies aren’t getting any cheaper and for some families the burden of this expense is too much,” Deb Zimmer, HR Compensation Analyst says. “We like to find ways we can make a difference in our communities, and if we can benefit kids it just makes the impact that much greater.”

Donations were collected in the form of physical school supply donations or monetary contributions. The means of garnering interest, however, were much more creative. For instance, employees earned a “jeans day” with the contribution of a supply. For some, their contribution came with the pleasure of soaking their favorite company leaders in a dunk tank.

“We strive to create fun opportunities for our employees to give back,” Arely Sanchez, HR Generalist says. “The school supply drive was a great success and we look forward to partnering with local schools in the future, hoping to expand this effort every year to include more schools!”

All-in-all, more than 1,000 supplies were collected and donated to local schools for use in this upcoming school year. Things like backpacks, pens, notebooks, glue sticks, folders, scissors and pens populated the list along with a host of other items.

“Donations like this are huge for our students and teachers alike,” Carlyle Elementary School Principal Kerrick Rahm says. “We are grateful companies like The Maschhoffs help provide more tools so our teachers and students can focus on what matters most – creating excellent learning opportunities.”
